There are numerous stories claiming to account for when and where the original margarita was made but no-one seems to agree on one in particular. One of the more common stories is the tale of Enrique Bastante Gutierez, former world cocktail champion who once served drinks to many of the great names in Hollywood in the 1940s. One of these film stars was the actress Rita Hayworth. According to Enrique, he mixed the cocktail for Ms. Hayworth and named it after her, whose real name was Margarita...

Mexican Margarita

Ingredients:

2oz Tequila (Cuervo 1800)
1/2oz Cointreau
1/2oz Grand Marnier
1/2oz Orange juice
1oz Lime juice
4oz Sweet and sour mix

Method:

Chill a large margarita cocktail glass. Place all above ingredients in a shaker glass and shake. Pour a 1/4 inch deep circular pile of salt onto a plate or cutting board. Moisten the rim of the glass using a lime wedge. Dip the glass in the salt, rotating gently to cover the rim with salt and carefully set the glass down. Place some ice cubes in the glass if desired and pour the drink carefully into the centre of the glass. Enjoy!
